The 1898-S Barber Quarter (Buy on eBay) had a mintage of just over one million pieces, but is quite scarce at certain grade levels. It is among the least frequently encountered coins of the series in mint state grades, making any offering of the coin graded as such an opportunity for Registry and high end collectors. The example above is graded AU50, a grade level which is more commonly found for this issue than well worn coins or uncirculated coins.
